It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over

This artwork was created to illustrate the current calls for the end of the recession. Is it really all over yet – or are we only in a temporary state of recovery?

Oh yes, Christmas is approaching faster than we would like to see it happen… Here’s a linocut image in color showing a Canadian caribou shoveling away a pile of snow. (Or is it simply foraging for food?)

Created this on the topic of conspiracies taking place within networks. I like the intertwined hands here…

Here’s a visual art on communication networks which I feel turned out really nice – starting a discussion at some point will inevitably lead to similar talks demanding the need to build from where you started.

More on the Lehman bankruptcy one year ago today: The illo above hints on the many co-workers getting fired after the company went bankrupt. The symbol of the day was the tote bag bearing the corporate logo. (It’s funny – everybody hates investment bankers while they are drowning in money that somebody else made; but once they’re put off, everybody starts feeling sorry for them. Poor race!) Anyway, I like the way they are leaning onto each other here, with tears rolling down their cheeks.
The spot art below is a funny comment on the sensation that many felt at the time – that, in the words of The New York Times, their own bank was “robbing” them of their jobs.

So I made this painting the other day – it’s pretty huge and was done in acrylic on canvas. If you look closely, you can spot a tree, a woman, a man, and a child, as well as symbols and written words all over the place.

This is one of my favorite images from a book on animals which has just gotten published by Rowohlt Verlag in Germany. With black coucals, apparently, it’s the female who’s got the saying at home ;-)
Here’re two more snapshots from the book:

(Interestingly enough, I used to work with bonobos waaaay back in the old days when I was thinking about doing a thesis on those creatures – but this is the first time I have actually gotten around to bringing them to paper!)

For this image, the client asked for an über-African landscape abounding with stereotype animals. I used a warm colors and mixed-media to highlight the animals amidst all the trees and stuff.

I created this fun image here to illustrate the varying uses of one language in two different countries. While in France, when it rains, they say, il pleut des cordes (it’s raining ropes), in French-speaking Canada this translates to the somewhat peculiar il pleut à boire debout (it is raining enough to drink standing up). This is pretty much equivalent to the British take on this, employing cats and dogs…

Alright, so here’s the scoop. I got talked into taking that blogging route and all. I am even on Facebook and Flickr now! Who would have thought?
The person behind all this unprecedented development is, of course, the indescribable, wonderful, sensational, inspiring, fabulous, irresistible, totally crazy, wholly mysterious, and über-cool Katherine Streeter from NYC. Be sure to browse her blog at http://www.dolldreamer.blogspot.com.
Thanks so much Katherine!
