About Oliver Weiss

I am an illustrator, artist, author, and designer working for publishers around the world. Specializing in hand drawings and mixed-media collage, I work mainly from Berlin, but also from New York City at times where I used to live a few years back.

My clients include The New York Times, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Die Welt, Kiplinger, Rowohlt, Gruner+Jahr, New Scientist, Scientific American, Die Zeit, Penguin Random House, Focus, dtv, National Geographic, The Christian Science Monitor, Der Spiegel, Johns Hopkins University, Ritzenhoff, CBS, Munich Oktoberfest, and Deutsche Bank.

In the world of book design, I have created jacket cover designs and interior illustrations for bestselling books, including Penguin Random House’s Who am I – and if so, How Many? by Richard David Precht, and Yuval Noah Harari’s A Brief History of Mankind. My first children book was an illustrated poem by Rainer Kirsch on the history of mathematics. My second book, Die Öblings kommen! won me the “Meefisch” Award for Best Picture Book. More books are currently in the making.

My work has been recognized by European Newspaper Award, American Illustration, Society of Illustrators, 3×3 Illustration Magazine, Novum World of Graphic Design magazine, and Lürzer’s 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide annual. I have won the grand prize in the Munich Oktoberfest design competition, and been among the lucky few to be creating stamp designs for Germany.
